In 2021, the Holyoke Housing Authority and Habitat for Humanity received an award of $120,000 towards the construction of 2 single-family homes on a vacant lot at 484 Chestnut Street at the corner of Chestnut and Jackson Streets (between the Falcetti Towers and Churchill Homes) to be sold to income eligible first-time home buyers. Habitat for Humanity volunteers are is now completing the process of building the two homes.
The homes are being built in the style of the Churchill Homes across the street to maintain the character of the neighborhood, and will provide home-ownership opportunities to two low-income families. This project will reduce blight in a residential neighborhood through the infill of empty lots, improve quality of life for people in Holyoke, and create new tax revenue for the City.
