In FY23 $9,900 in CPA funds was awarded to the City Hall Clerk and the Friends of City Hall in the category of Historic Preservation to remove and restore approximately thirty historic journals and ledgers stored in the basement of City Hall. The documents are between 50-100 years old, and are deteriorating as a result of exposure to moisture and mold. This project will provide vital information about a period in our city's early history. Once these documents are cleaned and sanitized they will be available for public viewing and individual research in the History Room of the Holyoke Public Library. This project represents a named priority in the city's Community Preservation Plan, to "ensure the resources are stored in conditions where they are protected by mold and or deterioration, and to restore materials that have sustained damage."
